The First National Bank of Brewster is a wholly owned subsidiary of Anita Bancorporation. The bank began as the Farmers State Bank of Brewster and had its originating headquarters in the Fred Nelson cream station in Krukemeyer’s store. The Bank opened for business in its own location in 1915. In 1916 the bank purchased a new Burroughs adding machine with an electric motor. On February 1, 1917 the Farmers State Bank changed its charter and name to The First National Bank of Brewster, owned by 25 shareholders of which 92 percent lived in Nobles County and owned 76 percent of the capital. The bank has had various other private owners over the years.
March 10, 1933 all banks were ordered closed by the President of the United States and on March 15, 1933 the First National Bank of Brewster was again licensed to open as a bank. The bank was remodeled in 1935 with an additional 34 feet added to the rear. Air conditioning was added in 1938 for the comfort of all.
Groundbreaking ceremonies were held, on October 17, 1978, for the beginning of a new bank facility at its present location. On July 13, 1979, license approval was obtained to move to this location.
On, November 6, 1984, First National Bank of Brewster opened its second location in Worthington MN. This site was previously the location of State Bank of Worthington for over 100 years.
The First National Bank of Brewster has enjoyed over ninety years of continuous growth and during that time has played a very important role in the security of the communities it serves and in the personal lives of now the third and fourth generation families who continue to do business there.
